As the deadly pandemic grows day by day, Doctors and Scientists are literally putting blood, sweat and tears in finding a cure that can save humanity from the COVID-19 Virus. Doctors and Scientists around the globe are continuously examining the sample and working on every drug that can help patients come out of the dark.
One such study by the University of Chicago is giving us a ray of hope that we'll come out of this strong and safe. A clinical trial is being held at the University of Chicago, where COVID-19 patients are treated with Gilead Science's antiviral medicine Remdesivir and are being continuously watched. The clinical trials saw a rapid recovery of fever and decreased respiratory symptoms with patients being discharged within a week.
SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes Covid-19. Remdesivir is one of the first medicines that is said to have a vast impact on it in the lab tests. Clinical trials are still under process while the world awaits positive results from Gilead's trial. The trial reports have to be effective and positive to get approval from the Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory agencies. Remdesivir has a high chance of becoming the first approved treatment for coronavirus.
The University of Chicago is continuously giving daily doses of the vaccine to patients with both severe condition and to ones suffering comparatively less. "The best news is that most of our patients have already been discharged, which is great, We've only had two patients perish," said Kathleen Mullane, the University of Chicago infectious disease specialist overseeing the Remdesivir studies for the hospital. The outcomes till now are only a small glimpse of Remdesivir's effectiveness. Clinical trails are still being done at different institutions and the complete results are yet to come out and hence it is difficult to arrive at a conclusion with any certainty.
The world awaits a positive result from the University of Chicago Medicine and a speedy recovery of everyone effected.
